Indianapolis, Ind.—The College Network awarded LPN (licensed practical nurse) Susan Schartou a scholarship in recognition of her service in nursing and her commitment to continue her education. Schartou joins a select few nurses honored with a scholarship by The College Network. An awards ceremony is scheduled for 1:30p.m. on January 15th at the Wingate at Dutchess facility in Fishkill, N.Y.
“Susan epitomizes the spirit of the best that Dutchess has to offer when considering our commitment to the challenges faced by our team every day,” said Clayton Harbby, administrator for Wingate at Dutchess.
Wingate at Dutchess was among six healthcare facilities across the United States selected to receive a scholarship from The College Network to award a nurse professional who makes a difference in his or her healthcare community and in the lives of patients. Each nurse received a scholarship valued at up to $7500 to use toward completing his or her education. The College Network’s scholarship fund was created to support healthcare facilities in continuing to meet their educational goals and improve healthcare delivery.
“Great nurses are born out of a desire to help people,” said Gary Eyler, chairman and CEO of The College Network. “Our future depends on ensuring that professionals such as Susan Schartou have the necessary resources available to continue to achieve higher levels of education and caregiving. The College Network is committed to making a difference by providing nurses with affordable and accessible educational solutions.”
Schartou began her career with Wingate Healthcare as a unit aid. She attended the Board of Cooperative Educational Services in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., where she trained as an LPN. In August of 2007, she became an LPN and began her work in the Vanderbilt Unit at Wingate at Dutchess. Colleagues describe her as being friendly, supportive, helpful, and, most of all, dedicated to the residents and staff at Wingate. Schartou is currently pursuing her Associate of Science in Nursing.
Wingate at Dutchess is a 160-bed skilled nursing center specializing in short-term rehabilitation, ventilator, and long-term care in eastern New York. Its success is attributed to its professional culture of service, teamwork, and leadership. Wingate at Dutchess is working with The College Network to help nurses such as Schartou further their education and continue the tradition of nursing excellence for the patients and the community they serve.
